Dear Kien,
This is exactly a test scenario of model "two dimensional collected Information".
On quantity dimension, you get a lot of information from students: texts, resolves and even their chats. So the number of contents would be more than chat
On the quality, It would be higher! because students try to get a high score from the instructor, so they delivery high quality documents then in chat or forum. But there is a revers factor on quality. In teaching you have a lot of information are known!
The application should be valued in the first quadrant of my diagram, between the "chat-point" and "blog-points".
A good practice for this application could be SKIPE in combination with a wiki for the storing of documents.
Thanks a lot of your comment

The diagram showing relationships among different types of information exchange is fascinating. Please explain what form of application is used if a course is taught on-line with students able to chat with the instructor and, at the same time, able to post information. Thanks.

Dear Joachim Niemeier and Dirk Röhrborn,

I would try to define a scalar for this model and try to put other application as Twiter, Microblogging, RSS, bookmarking in the table.

Do You think one could use this model for the decision for setting software application in a enterprise or a commune or a social network?

Thanks a lot for your comments and suggestions on the classification model.
Best regards
The-Anh Vuong

With regards to Dr. Vuongs classification I think that it might be quite difficult to determine the proper general positioning of blogs, wikis, websites and blikis within the quadrants. In particular, we have seen blogs an wikis that differ a lot in their quality and also quantity. As an example there are blogs with a large number of small articles per day without much of a message. On the other hand there are blogs that provide only a few articles per year that as such are of great value.

Concerning the bliki approach we are seeing more and more software products (e.g. Atlassian Confluence) and also intranet applications that combine wiki and blogs. However, in most cases blogs are used for internal or external communications of companies, corporate units, teams or the employees themselves whereas wikis are applied to collect and share knowledge or to simply set up informative websites. Hence, blogs an wikis are used in a rather loose combination. In addition, Confluence has a neat commenting feature for wiki posts that is sometimes used like a blog or discussion forum.

What we see emerge at presence is the rising use of blogs or instant messenging tools (or Twitter) as a kind of microblog for project or team communication. These microblogs serve as a kind of log for issues and project statuses. I have the feeling that blogs (for rather structured communication), wikis (for knowledge collection and sharing) and microblogs (for unstructured or semi-structured ad-hoc
communication in teams) will be used as separate modes of communication but in more closer combination than they have been so far.

With regards to the two dimensional chart: Where do you locate eg.

- Microblogging
- Social discovery/collaborative filtering (bookmarking, news, search)
- Social networks
- RSS

Blogs and Wikis are different tools, but there is some overlap. Typical functions served by blogs are eg.

- expert views on a subject or
- distribution of news.

Wikis seem to be more appropriate for

- experience & knowledge sharing and
- building of knowledge pools (subject information, dictionaries, encycopaedia).

Form this view in a more "SOA"-oriented approach blogs and Wikis will probably not merge into one tool (my assumption!). I expect a workspace which allows to have eg. a wiki page (for collaborative writing) with an additional blog per wiki page for discussion und mutual exchange of views.
